Feng Shui Fix
Mclean, VA

This transformative renovation began when our client discovered Ballard Mensua Architecture by searching for an architect with expertise in Feng Shui design. The existing home—a tight split foyer with poor circulation, a small kitchen, and a disjointed layout—was completely reimagined to improve energy flow, spatial harmony, and daily function.

The design introduced a new entrance portico, custom maple and metal railings, and an etched glass and stainless-steel entry system, anchored by limestone and forged metal tiles to enhance both aesthetic and energy. The once traditional living room with arched windows now features horizontal-grained birch millwork by RKI, modern flooring, and sleek door systems that open to a backyard pool.

The centerpiece is a fully custom, chef-grade kitchen featuring birch cabinetry, metal-framed etched glass panels, and a hand-painted glass backsplash by artist Keith Hudson. A birch-paneled ceiling adds a unique modern take on a traditional cove detail, reinforcing the home's sense of balance and intention.

This project reflects the client’s desire for a contemporary yet spiritually grounded home, designed for both beauty and flow.
