Ballard Mensua Architecture partnered with Cima Design Build to transform a dilapidated bungalow in Clarendon into a spacious, fully updated residence—while preserving the home’s original charm. Situated in a walkable, historic neighborhood, the renovation carefully maintained the bungalow’s character at the street-facing front, ensuring it remained in harmony with its surroundings.
To the side and rear—where there were no immediate neighbors—we designed and built a large, modern addition. Dormers carved into the expansive roofline allowed for the creation of over 6,000 square feet of living space. We also underpinned the basement, converting a low-ceilinged cellar into a fully functional lower level with over 8-foot ceilings.
The project includes a new detached garage connected to the kitchen via a custom mudroom. All mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems were replaced, along with new windows, siding, built-ins, bathrooms, and a fully redesigned kitchen. Cima Design Build successfully sold the property to a delighted new owner.
