Ballard + Mensua Architecture was featured in Washingtonian’s article “These Incredible Work-From-Home Spaces Used to Be Garages,” showcasing the firm’s talent for turning underused spaces into inspiring environments.

In this project, the team transformed an old garage into a custom studio for an artist homeowner. To honor the structure’s original character, much of the wood from the existing ceiling was salvaged and repurposed. The design incorporates reclaimed pine boards for the new desk, back wall, and built-in shelving. Additional upgrades include a new patio door, windows, and modern track lighting to create a bright, inviting space filled with natural materials and thoughtful details.

This adaptive reuse project reflects Ballard + Mensua’s commitment to blending sustainability, craftsmanship, and creativity to meet each client’s unique needs.
